Action-puzzle platformer for PC

Deepest Sword is a free action-puzzle video game created by an independent developer, Cosmic Adventure Squad. This 2D side-scrolling game mixes elements of puzzle-solving and physics-based gameplay to create a unique platforming experience. It’s a game submission created in 72 hours to participate in the Ludum Dare 48 Jam event.

Deepest Sword utilizes physics-based platformer in the same vein as Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy, wherein it has players navigate and pole vault their way through shifting platforms. Each section of the game features various obstacles that players need to solve as they make their way to their goal.

What is Deepest Sword about?

In Deepest Sword, you take the role of a knight, venturing into the Cave of Longing to defeat a dragon by stabbing it in the heart. You will do so with your unwieldy sword that doubles as a makeshift pole vault. The catch? Your sword isn't long enough to reach the creature's heart, and you're defeated. Each time you start over again, your sword grows ever longer, as well.

Deepest Sword's control scheme is simple and easy to learn. You press the A and D keys to move left and right respectively. Then, you rotate your sword, in the same manner, using the Left and Right arrow keys. Press the R key to respawn, and the 0 (zero) key to do a full reset. Alternatively, you can use your right and left mouse buttons for sword rotation, as well.

Deepest Sword is a charming game with a rather unique premise, but as mentioned earlier, it was developed within 72 hours as an entry for a game competition. As a result, it has a very short runtime, and you will be able to defeat the dragon and reach the ending within 10 minutes or so.

A funny and charming puzzle platformer

Overall, Deepest Sword is a fun and charming game with a clever premise. Its controls are simple, the level is well-designed, and the graphics are done in the ever-popular retro art style. While it will be a short-lived playthrough, it is well worth a try or two.
